Default I could have messed up.

Hey guys. I had a quick question about my level 16 warrior in the game. I made ranger as my secondary, was that a big mistake? It seems fairly weak and the only attributes from ranger I use is the pet; this leads into a second question. Is the melandrus stalker a good pet? If not could you guy's suggest another one? And last of all, is this build salvageable or should I just start another character?

Definitely don't delete this char. Ranger secondary provides very valuable skills for any primary class. Troll Ungeunt serves as a very good self heal. There are plenty of ranger stances that can be used effectively as a warrior. Plus a pet can be very helpful.

But the real reason you shouldn't delete, even if you don't like rangers, is that a little bit later into the game you can change your secondary class.

So no worries mate

Its not really possible to permanently "mess up" a decision in Guild Wars. Your secondary profession can be changed later in the game, and until then your choice doesn't really matter much anyway. Oftentimes, you're more effective just by dropping your secondary class skills/attributes and being a straight warrior, and that's doubly true pre-level 20.

All pets except the Bear (which is slightly slower) are identical, pick what you like.

Troll is useless on a war, you've no real business speccing into WS, it's 3s cast and regen will never save you when you really need a heal. Tiger's Fury is mediocre at best, and is probably the only stance you'd ever want from /R. Flail owns the shit out of it though, so stances from /R are pretty much a bad idea. Pets are aight, but it's my belief that you'd be better off adding two warrior skills in the places of Charm/Comfort.

There isn't really a best pet, only a worst. You don't have a bear, so you're fine (brutal mauling is useless).

Regardless, no reason to start over, as others have said. Can ascend and change your profession, though I find myself using pure warrior in PvE the most.

A few pets deal piercing damage which is a rather insignificant difference. If you insist on bringing a pet choose based on looks alone. (but don't choose a bear) In general, a warriors secondary is useful but there are tons of things you can do without it.

I can tell you that on my 20 warrior that has been through prophecies, factions, and now nightfall, I hardly touch my secondary.

Guild Wars is a very forgiving game, and you can rearrange your attribute points between any of your primary or secondary attributes while in any town or outpost.

That being said, there probably isn't too much in the ranger profession that will help a primary warrior. For the time being, I'd focus on the warrior attributes and skills. Taking skills from just sword/axe/hammer, then tactics or strength can make extremely effective build on its own. My current warrior is basically swordsmanship & strength...

As far as pets go - they are only marginally effective, and they require a fairly heavy investment in both attribute points and skills to be of any use. The pets themselves are pretty much equal except for looks. Bears, though, have this extra skill which actually is a detriment - it is slower to animate and does nothing extra...
